Nose: Bakewell tart, clotted cream and soft ginger notes. Fresh runny honey with cashew nuts and lemongrass.
Palate: Bitter lemon, almost hoppy with lime and growing creaminess. Touch of cinnamon with white pepper, mashed over ripe bananas and chocolate bourbon biscuits.
Finish: Soft dry chocolate notes becoming creamier with hints of lime zest.
Built on the site of Pluscarden Priory, a site where brewing is said to have been practiced since the 1230’s. Major reconstruction took place in 1974 and between 1964 and 1981 a pair of Lomond stills were added. These stills were replaced by normal stills to bring the distillery up to 3 pairs of stills, giving the distillery a capacity of 5.5 million litres.
Independent review from Whisky-Over:
Nose: Fresh and fruity. Small white flowers of apple, yellow melon, pear, peach and juicy apricot. A mentholated tip in the background. A generous nose.
Taste: Yellow and white fruit compote, slightly astringent fruit peel, sour apple. Tingling due to alcohol when you take a sip in the mouth for a while.
Finish: Average length. The astringent fruit peel dominates. A slight spike persists on the tip of the tongue.
Comments: A classic, balanced, and enjoyable Speysider. It develops well with aeration. 86 points
